Wessex Sound Studios London, England Wessex Sound Studios was originally St. Augustine's Church, which was built in 1881. In the 1960s, the church was converted into a recording studio. Much of A Day At The Races was recorded there (including the video for Somebody To Love in October 1976). Famously, News Of The World was recorded there at the same time as The Sex Pistols' Never Mind The Bollocks album. The famous stomp, stomp, clap of We Will Rock You was also recorded at this location. In 2003, the studio was sold and converted into an apartment complex. |

Basing Street Studios London, England Originally known as Island Studios and finally as Sarm West, Basing Street Studios were opened by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell. The studios were finished inside of a former church building in 1970. Queen recorded part of News Of The World, including We Are The Champions at the studios. Previously, parts of Bohemian Rhapsody and The Prophet's Song were recorded there as well. The studio is also known for Led Zeppelin IV and the Band Aid single Do They Know It's Christmas. The studio building is set for demolition in 2015. |
