Single Info

During a down period following Queen's 1977 American tour, Roger Taylor and producer Mike Stone went into the studio to record Taylor's first solo effort. The result is a purported cover of The Parliaments track I Wanna Testify. In actuality, the track has more in common with Women And Drinkin' by The Persuasions, who lifted the chorus from The Parliaments classic song.

An original Taylor composition, Turn On The T.V. filled out the B-side. Both tracks were produced by Roger Taylor and Queen engineer Mike Stone with all instruments played by Taylor.

I Wanna Testify was released in the UK on August 26, 1977 but did not chart. Belgium and Holland both received the single, each with a unique picture sleeve.

Roger's first solo effort is a funky song that is a departure from the typical Queen sound of the time. I Wanna Testify, a cover track, became a sought after collectors item by Queen fans. A CD and digital version was finally released as part of the 2013 boxset The Lot.

The B-side to the I Wanna Testify single and the first solo track penned by Roger. Turn On The T.V. has a heavy classic guitar sound and seems to be highly inspired by Led Zeppelin (especially the middle acoustic part). This is very different from what we're used to hearing from Roger/Queen, but still very good.
