Album Info
The Brian May Band, consisting of Brian May (vocals/guitar),
Cozy Powell (drums), Neil Murray (bass), Spike Edney (keyboards), Jamie
Moses (guitar/vocals), Cathy Porter (vocals), and Shelly Preston (Vocals)
spent the majority of 1993 touring the world in support of May's Back To
The Light album. Some parts of the tour were in support of Guns n' Roses
while the last half of the year saw the band headlining on their own.
A last minute decision was made to record the first London show of the tour,
held at the Brixton Academy concert on June 15, 1993. The setlist was a
mixture of Queen classics, Brian May solo tracks, and covers such as Since
You've Been Gone by Rainbow and God (The Dream Is Over) by John Lennon.
Live At The Brixton Academy was released on Febuary 7, 1994 on LP, CD, and
VHS, reaching #20 on the UK chart. The VHS is a more complete representation
of that evening's performance, whereas the CD and LP slightly edits some
of the tracks for time. The track order is slightly changed on the LP due
to song length, specifically Now I'm Here and Resurrection. God (The Dream
Is Over) did not make the final cut of the album; Yoko Ono never responded
to Brian's request for inclusion.
Some tracks appeared as B-sides on May's Last Horizon singles released in
December 1993.
