To support The Cosmos Rocks, Queen + Paul Rodgers' first and only studio album, the band went on a forty concert tour across Europe, Asia, and South America. The first show was a free concert held in Freedom Square in Kharkov, Ukraine on September 12, 2008 to support Olena Pinchuk's AntiAids Foundation. 350,000 people filled Freedom Square to witness the event.

The concert was shown in US theaters for one night only on November 6, 2008. A home release titled Live In Ukraine was released in the UK June 15, 2009 on DVD, DVD/CD combo packs, and a DVD/CD tin box with T-shirt. A DVD and DVD/CD combo was available in the US exclusively through Best Buy that September, charting at #111.

Home releases did not feature the full concert. From this show, A Kind Of Magic was available as an exclusive download from Amazon while Radio Ga Ga was released only on iTunes. Wishing Well from that night's concert remains unreleased.

Tensions on the South American leg of the tour brought the Queen + Paul Rodgers partnership to an amicable end. Live In Ukraine would be the last release from the group.
