Album Info

Queen's first live album, Live Killers, compiles performances from the band's European Tour from January to March 1979. Released in late June 1979, the album peaked at #3 in the UK and went double platinum in the US, reaching #16 on the Billboard chart.

A live single, Love Of My Life backed with Now I'm Here, charted at #63 on the UK chart. Elektra released We Will Rock You (Fast) in the US as a single, but it did not chart.

An edited, single disc version of Live Killers was released in Japan, Brazil, Australia, and South America in 1985 titled simply Queen Live. A New Zealand version was released the same year under the title Live In Concert.

The British national newspaper, The Mail On Sunday, included a promo CD called Rock You with their April 26, 2009 edition. Rock You used the Live Killers album artwork and ten tracks from the album, paired with four tracks from the We Will Rock You Original London Cast to promote the musical.

Appears on: US We Will Rock You (Live) 7" vinyl, Japan We Will Rock You (Live) 7" vinyl

The US and Japan markets both released the live version of We Will Rock You (Fast) as a single in 1979. Both releases used a unique edit of the Live Killers version of Let Me Entertain You as the B-side. The track starts midway through Freddie's interaction with the audience. The crowd fades in and Freddie asks them "are you ready to rock... are you ready to roll... ok let's do it". The track ends with a fade out of the crowd cheering.

This version appears on Rock You, a promo CD from the UK newspaper The Mail. This version edits out the entire intro of Freddie saying "You are now gonna sing!..." and starts straight with the music. Also, the track does not fade in as it does on the album, but flows with audience noise straight from Get Down, Make Love. Similarly, the ending edits off the audience chanting after the song finishes and rather than fading out, which it does on the album, the audience noise flows straight into '39.

Love Of My Life (Japan Live Single Version) 3:39
Appears on: Japan Love Of My Life 7" vinyl

Love Of My Life from Live Killer was also released as a single in Japan. Compared to the album version, the Japanese version starts right after Freddie commenting "the things you do for money"; Freddie's laugh is what opens the track. The ending is a bit shorter than the standard UK version, editing out some of the crowd cheering at the end.

Love Of My Life (Brazil Compilation Version) 3:44
Appears on: Brazil Thank God It's Christmas compilation LP

In 1985, EMI released a unique compilation album entitled "Thank God It's Christmas" in Brazil. Love Of My Life, which was a single from Live Killers, was also featured on this album with a unique version. The track begins and ends with fading crowd noise. Freddie's full introduction to the song is retained in this version.

Love Of My Life (Live Video Version) 3:25

In 1998, Hollywood Records released The Crown Jewels box set, featuring new remasters of Queen's first eight studio albums. A promo CD was issued featuring 5 different versions of Keep Yourself Alive to promote the release. A slight edit of the Live Killers live version was included with this issue. This version removes the opening crowd noise, beginning with the drums instead.

Keep Yourself Alive (Rock You Version) 3:52
Appears on: UK Rock You promo CD

This version appears on Rock You, a promo CD from the UK newspaper The Mail. The last 4 seconds of the fade out are edited off, so the crowd cuts off for Don't Stop Me Now to come in. On the original LP, Keep Yourself Alive ended Side Two and Don't Stop Me Now was the first track of Side Three, so here they faked a cross-fade with this edit between the two tracks.

Don't Stop Me Now

Don't Stop Me Now (Rock You Version) 4:26

Spread Your Wings (US Live Single Version) 5:17
Appears on: US Crazy Little Thing Called Love 7" vinyl

The US #1 release of Crazy Little Thing Called Love featured a unique Live Killers single version of Spread Your Wings. The intro does not include the initial piano note before the song (the Japanese version retains this part of the intro). This version is a bit longer than the album version and Japan single version, keeping fading crowd noise after Roger's drum roll at the end.

Spread Your Wings (Japan Live Single Version) 5:10
Appears on: Japan Crazy Little Thing Called Love 7" vinyl

The Japanese release of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, like it's American counterpart, featured the Live Killers performance of Spread Your Wings as the B-side. The Japanese single version is slightly different though. At the start of the track the crowd noise fades in and the initial piano note is retained (unlike the US version). This version runs slightly faster, which shortens the track length. The end fades out very quickly after Roger's final drum roll.

Spread Your Wings (Live in Europe, 1979) 5:21
Appears on: News Of The World 40th Anniversary Edition

Spread Your Wings from the Live Killers album was included as a bonus track on the News Of The World 40th Anniversary Edition box set. This version varies slightly from the album and single versions.
