Album Info
The Queen's Golden Jubilee commemoriated Queen Elizabeth
II's 50th year of reign in the UK. Called Party At The Palace, the event
was held at Buckingham Palace in front of a crowd of 12,000 and over 200
million watching on television. A who's who of British popular musicians
performed with a house band and the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Michael Kamen.
Most famously, Brian May opened the concert on top of Buckingham Palace,
performing his rendition of God Save The Queen with the trusty Red Special
guitar. Brian May and Roger Taylor later performed a set as Queen with the
London Cast Of We Will Rock You and were later joined by Will Young of Pop
Idol fame for We Are The Champions. Brian and Roger performed with other
artists throughout the evening including Joe Cocker, Phil Collins, and Cliff
Richard.
The concert was released on DVD and CD in June 2002. The CD was heavily
edited, removing the performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. That performance
would finally become available on the We Will Rock You The Musical 10th
Anniversary CD.
