Andy Gibb

Play The Game
Appears on: Unreleased

A version of Play The Game with Andy Gibb is confirmed to exist from the 1980 spring Queen Fan Club magzine. Andy was invited to sing on the track and Freddie apparently was impressed with his abilities. Queen producer Reinhold Mack has also confirmed that the version did exist. It is still unknown if the tapes have survived over the years.

Annie Crummer

Another One Bites The Dust 3:50
Appears on: Queen + Annie Crummer Another One Bites The Dust CD single, iTunes We Will Rock You Around The World Digital EP, UK We Will Rock You - 10 Years CD

This new remix of Another One Bites The Dust was released in 2003 to promote the Austrailian production of the Queen musical We Will Rock You and its CD releases. New Zealand pop singer Annie Crummer was chosen to play the role of Killer Queen in the musical and provides lead vocals on this studio remix of the song. The track was produced by Joshua J. Macrae of The Cross and was mixed by both Macrae and Roger Taylor. This is a good alternative version and a fun remix.

Another One Bites The Dust (Instrumental) 3:50

This is a full intrumental version of the aforementioned Annie Crummer remix. The lead vocals have been removed, which gives the listener a nice opportunity to hear the remixed backing track.

Armageddon

I Want It All / We Will Rock You Mash-Up 5:07
Appears on: Sucker Punch Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Armageddon (John Eaddy) is a former member of the late 90s hip-hop group Terror Squad. Armageddon was asked by Sucker Punch director Zach Snyder to provide music for a scene in the film. Armageddon delivered a demo of the mash-up to Queen, who was concerned that the song was not right for the scene. A newer version was provided and approved for use in the film. The song itself is a mash-up rap remix that has sampled parts of I Want It All and We Will Rock You with Armageddon rapping original verses. The song is also featured in the Electronic Arts videogame Madden NFL 12.

This radio mix of the mash-up was available as a free download online to promote the Sucker Punch movie and soundtrack. Thhe radio mix edits over a minute of the song, making it much more concise and to the point.

David Bowie

Under Pressure (Album Version) 4:03
Appears on: Hot Space, Track 11

Under Pressure (Greatest Hits II CD Edit) 3:55
Appears on: UK Greatest Hits II CD, UK David Bowie: The Singles

This minor edit by David Richards was done to reduce run time on the Greatest Hits II CD. The only difference is the end lyrics; "this is our last dance..." is only repeated once, as opposed to the normal two times.

Under Pressure (Classic Queen Mix) 4:02
Appears on: US Classic Queen, US David Bowie: The Singles

This remix is very close to the final album version. The bass lines seem to be a bit more prominent in the mix and the overall sound is a little less muddy. Freddie singing "that's okay!" has been removed right before Bowie sings, "it's the terror of knowing..." It is unknown who did this remix. It is rumored that this is actually an old mix from around the Hot Space time period.

Under Pressure (Mr. Mixx Remix) 4:04
Appears on: BASIC Queen Bootlegs promo CD

Mr. Mixx is best known as a co-creator of the rap group 2 Live Crew. The remix is made up of the lead vocals of Freddie and David with scratching and drum beats in the background. The famous bass line pops up now and again.

Under Pressure (1998 Karaoke Version) 3:55
Appears on: 1998 Greatest Karaoke Hits

This is a nice instrumental version which shows there's much more to this song than people may think. It ends short of the album version, leaving a singular finger snap at the end. There is no click track to begin this karaoke version.

Under Pressure (2004 Karaoke Version) 4:04
Appears on: 2004 Greatest Karaoke Hits

The ending to this Karaoke Version differs from the original 1998 version. There is an extended outro, featuring 13 finger snaps to end the song.

Under Pressure (Rah Mix) 4:08
Appears on: Greatest Hits III, 1999 Under Pressure 12" vinyl promo, Queen + David Bowie/Elton John CD promo

The Rah Mix is a really good remix to promote the Greatest Hits III release. Most notably, it features brand new lyrics to open the song from both Bowie and Freddie. The mix is bass heavy and features some neat guitar and vocal effects. It is unknown who remixed this one, but I have heard from reliable sources that it stems from Brian.

Under Pressure (Rah Mix Radio Edit) 3:53
Appears on: UK Under Pressure Rah Mix CD Single, UK Under Pressure Rah Mix 7" vinyl, UK The Singles Collection Volume 4

This mix is exactly the same as the regular Rah Mix, except that it is missing the 15 seconds of extra vocals from Bowie and Freddie at the beginning. It is surprising that one of the most interesting parts of the song was edited.

Under Pressure (Rah Mix Video Version) 4:22
Appears on: UK Under Pressure Rah Mix CD Single - Part 1, UK 2011 Hot Space iTunes Video Download

The Rah Mix video is actually fairly well done, mixing together elements of the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and Wembley '86. The video creates a good illusion of Queen and Bowie performing together on stage. The audio is the same as the regular version, just adding crowd cheers and noise to go along with the video.

Under Pressure (Mike Spencer Mix) 3:52
Appears on: UK Under Pressure Rah Mix CD Single, Queen + David Bowie/Elton John CD promo, UK The Singles Collection Volume 4

This remix from producer Mike Spencer stays true to the original song. The bass line is much more prominent. The song opens with Bowie's backing humming edited in with Freddie's a capella opening. A few effects are added here and there which adds a bit to the song. Not a bad remix at all.

Under Pressure (2000 Club Mix) 5:21
Appears on: 1999 Under Pressure 12" vinyl promo

This remix begins with the strange guitar effects from the Rah Mix and pretty much remixes and rearranges the Rah Mix edit from that point on.

Under Pressure (Greatest Video Hits 2 Surround Mix) 4:10
Appears on: Greatest Video Hits 2 DVD

A new 96/24 DTS 5.1 surround mix of Under Pressure was made for the 2003 Greatest Video Hits 2 DVD. The new mixes on this DVD were produced by Justin Shriley-Smith. Engineered by Justin Shirley-Smith and Kris Fredriksson. Pro Tools HD by Kris Fredriksson. The mixes were done at Sphere Studios, London. A few seconds of silence are added to the beginning of the track for the video title card on the DVD.

Cool Cat (Original Version with David Bowie) 3:48
Appears on: Hot Space Test Pressing

The original version is very similar to the final album release. The performance is mostly the same and it features David Bowie doing some backing vocals. Bowie's vocals actually add a weird "haunting" element to the track. Definitely worth finding, although the current bootleg copies are not the best.

Cool Cat (Alternate Take with David Bowie) 3:45
Appears on: Unreleased

Not to be confused with the completed version with David Bowie that appears on the Hot Space test pressing, this is a completely different take of Cool Cat. The backing track is different in many parts, Freddie's lead vocal is from a different take, and there are lyrical changes. Bowie's contribution seemss to be from the same take as the original version. Not dramatically different, but there is enough here to stick out.

Eva Maria

Sólo Por Ti (Long Version) 5:22
Appears on: We Will Rock You Spanish Cast Album

Spanish singer and actress Eva María Cortés provides lead vocals (in Spanish) for this 2004 release of No-One But You. Eva María Cortés played the role of Meat in the We Will Rock You Madrid Cast. This single was released to promote the We Will Rock You Original Madrid Cast Recording CD. The backing track is the orchestral version that Kerry Ellis used for her single version. This is an interesting alternative, with some nice new Red Special parts. This "long version" has a lengthy orchestral intro.

Sólo Por Ti (Short Version) 4:30
Appears on: Sólo Por Ti CD single, We Will Rock You Spanish Cast Album

The same as the Long Version, just with the first 52 seconds or so cut out.

Five

We Will Rock You 2:56
Appears on: Five: Invincible

Five were a manufactured boy band from the creators of the Spice Girls. In 2000, Brian May and Roger Taylor represented the Queen name and re-recorded We Will Rock You with Five. The song finally hit number 1, 23 years after its initial release. The familiar lyrics are now changed to rapping bits by the members of Five. The chorus parts remain the same, taken from the original Queen version.

We Will Rock You (Radio Mix) 3:08
Appears on: Five + Queen We Will Rock You

This radio mix is the same as the album version, but is surprisingly longer, adding an intro and longer outro.

We Will Rock You (Millenium Megamix) 5:11
Appears on: Five + Queen We Will Rock You

A long remix of Five + Queen's We Will Rock You and various other tracks mashed throughout.

John Farnham

We Will Rock You 3:06
Appears on: Queen + John Farnham We Will Rock You promo CD, John Farnham: One Voice - Greatest Hits, True Colours - The World In Union

John Farnham is an English-born Australian pop singer who started off as a teen idol. Later in his career, Farnham became an adult contemporary artist. This version of We Will Rock You was recorded to promote the 2003 Rugby World Cup. The first 2 minutes features Farnham singing along to the normal backing track to We Will Rock You. The song then extends with added guitar by Brian. Farnham repeats the last verses and adds some additional vocals. All in all, this is a very nicely revisiting of the song.

Kerry Ellis

No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young) 5:18
Appears on: Anthems, Wicked In Rock EP, No-One But You download single, We Will Rock You Around The World EP

One of the highlights of the We Will Rock You Musical was Kerry Ellis' performance of the final Queen song, No-One But You. The studio recording pre-dates the album by 5 years, originally released in 2005 as a free download on Queenonline. The track was originally billed as Queen + Kerry Ellis because Roger plays drums on the song. The title was different too, originally known as No-One But You (Orchestral Version). The track was later featured on the We Will Rock You - Around The World EP and on the Wicked In Rock EP. Keith Prior also plays drums on the track (brushes).

Appears on: Another One Bites The Dust 7" picture disc vinyl, Another One Bites The Dust CD single, Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white), Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (red)

This is an energetic remix that speeds up the track and is definitely meant for the club circuit. This remix was completed by Miami producer/DJ Cedric Gervais and production house Second Sun. If you're into remixes, this isn't bad and the whole song seems to be in there.

Appears on: Another One Bites The Dust 12" promo vinyl (red label), Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white)

The backing dance track from the Radio Mix has been stretched to more than twice its original length and the vocals have almost entirely been dropped (except a few samples).

Appears on: Another One Bites The Dust 12" clear vinyl, Another One Bites The Dust CD single, Another One Bites The Dust 12" promo vinyl (white label), Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white)

This remix from German DJ and producer Oliver Koletzki is a calmer remix from the Miami Project singles, with some spacey synthesizers and effects. It runs a bit long, but isn't too bad.

Another One Bites The Dust (A Skillz Remix) 5:35
Appears on: Another One Bites The Dust 12" clear vinyl, Another One Bites The Dust CD single, Another One Bites The Dust 12" promo vinyl (white label), Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white)

A Skillz (a.k.a. Adam Mills) remixed this somewhat disjointed version of Another One Bites The Dust. There are times in this remix when it doesn't seem to know what it's doing or where it's going, but it still remains a fun alternative version.

Another One Bites The Dust (Soul Avengerz Remix) 7:14
Appears on: Another One Bites The Dust CD single, Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white)

This remix by Soul Avergerz (Paul Gardner and Wayne O'Connell) is lengthy and repetitive. I guess the unwritten rule of the dance remix is the longer, the better. Repetition is not bad if it's something worth repeating. The original is such a simple, catchy song, that two things will grow out of its success: a lot of remixes and a lot of remixes like this one. They all start to sound the same and this one sounds the most the same.

Another One Bites The Dust (Soul Avengerz Dub) 7:05
Appears on: Exclusive Internet Download, Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white)

Another uninspired remix with a sampled chorus and guitar set to a dance back beat.

Another One Bites The Dust (Dj Pedro And Oliver Berger Remix) 6:30
Appears on: Another One Bites The Dust CD single, Another One Bites The Dust promo CD (white)

There are no verses to the song, just "Another one bites the dust" sampled over and over. The rest is the usual dance mix fodder, with little recognizable as anything Queen.

Michael Jackson

There Must Be More To Life Than This featuring Michael Jackson (William Orbit Mix) 3:27
Appears on: Forever, Forever Deluxe Edition

After years of rumors, false starts, and red tape with the Michael Jackson estate, the Queen/Michael Jackson version of There Must Be More To Life Than This finally appeared on the 2014 compilation album "Forever". The Jackson estate approved the William Orbit Mix for release over the Chris Thomas/Queen produced version. The William Orbit Mix is sourced from Jackson's 1983 vocal take in Encino while Mercury/Deacon/Taylor's backing tracks are from either the 1981 Hot Space sessions or the 1983 The Works sessions. Orbit states that Brian May never played on the track (at least on the master tapes he had access to), so a new performance by Brian was recorded by Orbit in 2014. Orbit was given full creative freedom on his mix by the band, so additional programming and keyboards were added by him as well. The final product has received mixed reviews from Queen fans. The production and mixing of Freddie's vocal versus Jackson's vocal are the main source of contention. The first verse is sung by Freddie, the second verse is sung by Jackson, and the third verse is a duet between the two of them

There Must Be More To Life Than This featuring Michael Jackson (Queen Mix)
Appears on: Unreleased

In 2011, Queen signed with Universal Music, first under the Island Records label and then later under the Virgin EMI label. Universal wanted a new compilation album called Queen Forever for a Christmas release in 2011; their one mandate was for a Queen/Michael Jackson version of There Must Be More To Life Than This. This release did not happen at the time because rights were not granted by the Jackson estate. Roughly a year later, Brian May and Roger Taylor were finally able to work with the 1983 master tapes that were recorded by Freddie and Michael. On July 28, 2013, Brian May announced on his website the he, Roger, and producer Chris Thomas finished a track "with two great singers". Over a year later, a new compilation album entitled Queen Forever was announced for release in November 2014. A Queen version of There Must Be More To Life Than This featuring Michael Jackson was confirmed for inclusion on the CD. The version that was released for Queen Forever was not the Queen/Chris Thomas produced version, but a different version produced by William Orbit.

Confirmed to exist by Queen Archivist Greg Brooks at the 16th International Fan Club Convention in Prestatyn. Greg Brooks confirmed that Queen sang backing vocals. It is unknown if Michael sang lead vocals. A Queen version was later attempted during The Works sessions.

The Muppets

Bohemian Rhapsody 4:37
Appears on: 2009 iTunes Digital Download Single, 2009 Amazon.com Digital Download Single, YouTube Video

Queen paired up with The Muppets for this hillarious take of Bohemian Rhapsody, which started as a viral video on YouTube. The original Queen backing track was used for the video, which featured the various Muppets performing the vocals of the song. The video received over 10 million hits after just two weeks online. The audio was later available through most major online retail outlets.

Robbie Williams

We Are The Champions (Soundtrack Version) 3:54
Appears on: A Knight's Tale Soundtrack, Canada We Are The Champions promo CD

From the soundtrack of the 2001 film A Knight's Tale, starring Heath Ledger, who later posthumously won an academy award for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight. This is a completely new recording featuring Brian on guitar/backing vocals, Roger on drums/backing vocals, and Robbie Williams on lead vocals. What is really interesting is the orchestra backing up the band, although it is really buried in the mix. This performance is immediately recognizable at the beginning by the new, "spacey" intro. Robbie's vocals take a bit of getting used to, but his take on the song grows on the listener. Check out the awesome new guitar solo by Brian.

We Are The Champions (Main Radio Mix) 4:05
Appears on: Canada We Are The Champions promo CD, US We Are The Champions promo CD

With a running time the same as the regular mix, it is hard to tell the difference between the two. The orchestra is slightly more prominent in this version and where as The Soundtrack Version fades out at the end, this one ends without the fade.

We Are The Champions (Rock Radio Mix) 4:16
Appears on: US We Are The Champions promo CD

The Rock Radio Mix appears exclusively on a Capitol Records promotional CD. This mix was discovered by Richard Guilbault, who is a friend and contributor to QueenVault.com. This version is unique in that the orchestra does not appear in this mix, leaving a rawer rock sound which is more in the spirit of the original. Note, the track length is significantly longer than the other versions; the added time is mostly silence at the end of the song.

We Are The Champions (Video Version) 4:03
Appears on: A Knight's Tale DVD

With a running time the same as the regular mix, it is hard to tell the difference between the two. The regular mix fades out at the end, where this one ends without the fade.

We Are The Champions (Original Take)

The original take presented to the recording company and rejected for being "too different" from the classic version. This take is rumored to be a departure from the original, featuring acoustic guitar.

Vanguard

Flash (Radio Edit) 3:16
Appears on: UK Queen + Vanguard Flash CD single, Dutch Queen + Vanguard CD single

This is a much better mix than the longer versions. Pretty much repeating techno beats, with Queen singing the Flash chrous, and some samples from the movie. Some other samples from the original version are included with added effects to the vocals. If you must listen to one version of this mix, this would be it.

Flash (Extended Mix a.k.a. A1 Mix) 6:36
Appears on: Queen + Vanguard Flash 12" vinyl (Yellow Sleeve), Dutch Queen + Vanguard CD single

Apparently this mix was popular in Germany. The first 50 seconds are a beat loop that kills any anticipation to hear the song. It features the typical dance mix backbeat, Queen singing the chorus parts, Ming's sample from the movie, and a lot of looping.

Flash (Electro Mix) 7:23
Appears on: Queen + Vanguard Flash 12" vinyl (Yellow Sleeve)

The Electro Mix features some more samples from the movie, some electronic sound effects, and a much faster dance backbeat.

Flash (Tomcraft Remix) 7:06
Appears on: Queen + Vanguard Flash 12" vinyl (Red Sleeve), UK Queen + Vanguard Flash CD single, Dutch Queen + Vanguard CD single

At least this one sounds a bit different. This remix features a much different dance backbeat and looping. Much better than the Electro Mix but at over seven minutes, it becomes repetitive.

Flash (Smith and Selway Remix) 7:22
Written by Brian May, Remixed by Vanguard
Again, more dance beat with the occasional inclusion of Flash's Theme. This one is mostly an electronic looping instrumental.

Appears on: US/UK We Will Rock You VonLichten iTunes download

Queen's Brian May and Helmut VonLichten worked together to mash-up the classic Queen track We Will Rock You and VonLichten's Posthumus Zone. Posthumus Zone has been used by CBS Sports for their NFL theme. This mash-up includes samples from the original We Will Rock You multitrack, new orchestral bits from VonLichten, and some new guitar work from Brian. This track was featured in CBS's coverage of Super Bowl XLVII.

Another One Bites The Dust (Team 1 Black Rock Star Main Pass Mix) 4:50
Appears on: Queen + Wyclef Jean Another One Bites The Dust CD single

The best of the Wyclef Jean mixes by far. The backing track of the original song has been maintained more, with the bass riff being looped. The track starts with a vocal intro by Wyclef pondering if he can be a black rock star. All of Wyclef's and Freddie's parts from the LP version have been maintained. I recommend this one over the LP version, just because more of the original song is maintained. Some of Brian's guitars even come through now and again.

Another One Bites The Dust (Team 1 Black Rock Star Radio Edit) 4:19

An effective and a to the point edit of the Main Pass Mix. The edit probably works a little better than the full version just because there is little filler.
