Single Info

In 1995, BBC Radio 1FM broadcast a daily cliffhanger series produced by Dirk Maggs featuring Spider-Man with various other Marvel Comics characters. Tim Quinn of Marvel UK was involved with the project and asked Queen guitarist Brian May to provide music. May was enthusiastic, providing mutliple mixes and various works in progress for the project. Brian's wife Anita Dobson was an actor in the production as well.

Brian's Spider-Man themes and mixes, credited to MC Spy-D + "Friends", was released on 12" picture disc single and CD single. The 12" feaured three mixes while the CD added an additional two tracks. A promo 12" was also released with two more exclusive mixes.

Brian did the music for this radio show, so this is a delightfully odd project. The Mastermix condenses the show's story into a manic, colorful collage that is very fun, but not probably not something you'd hear on the radio (oh, the irony). Worth seeking, you'll probably scratch your head the first time you listen to this, but it grows you. Also, it recycles the "stomp, stomp, clap" from the "We Will Rock You" Ruined Remix at the beginning.

Here's a short, sweet guitar solo (mostly) that starts with a crash of strings.

The Amazing Spider-Man (White Trouser Mix) 8:14

This is more a trance mix than a dance mix, with long pulsing instrumental breaks broken up ocassionally by some of the same samples from the radio show that appear in the Mastermix. A new female voice sings backing vocals throughout.

The Amazing Spider-Person (Brown Trouser Mix) 0:11

A single guitar burst with no vocals here. Brian said this mix was created as a counterpart to the White Trousers mix, with the pun very much intended.

This curious track is a collection of audio cues, music stings and bits of dialogue. These would be useful for DJs to employ in their own remixes.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Solution Mix) 5:45

The new dance mix backing track pretty much overpowers the song and drowns out the recognizable Spider-Man material in all but a few places.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Solution Chilled Mix) 5:45
Appears on: UK The Amazing Spider-Man promo 12" vinyl

The Solution Chilled Mix appears on the B-side of the 12" promo vinyl. It is the same track as the Solution Mix, but with some of the vocals and sound effects removed. The vocals seem to be somewhat pushed back in the mix as well.

The B+J White Trouser Mix is the same as the White Trouser Mix.
