We Are The Champions

We Are The Champions (Soundtrack Version) 3:54
Written by Freddie Mercury

A Knight's Tale Soundtrack, Canada We Are The Champions promo CD
From the soundtrack of the 2001 film A Knight's Tale, starring Heath Ledger, who later posthumously won an academy award for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight. This is a completely new recording featuring Brian on guitar/backing vocals, Roger on drums/backing vocals, and Robbie Williams on lead vocals. What is really interesting is the orchestra backing up the band, although it is really buried in the mix. This performance is immediately recognizable at the beginning by the new, "spacey" intro. Robbie's vocals take a bit of getting used to, but his take on the song grows on the listener. Check out the awesome new guitar solo by Brian.

With a running time the same as the regular mix, it is hard to tell the difference between the two. The orchestra is slightly more prominent in this version and where as The Soundtrack Version fades out at the end, this one ends without the fade.

We Are The Champions (Rock Radio Mix) 4:16

US We Are The Champions promo CD
The Rock Radio Mix appears exclusively on a Capitol Records promotional CD. This mix was discovered by Richard Guilbault, who is a friend and contributor to QueenVault.com. This version is unique in that the orchestra does not appear in this mix, leaving a rawer rock sound which is more in the spirit of the original. Note, the track length is significantly longer than the other versions; the added time is mostly silence at the end of the song.

The original take presented to the recording company and rejected for being "too different" from the classic version. This take is rumored to be a departure from the original, featuring acoustic guitar.
